Leigh Ledare
Charlottenborg presents the first exhibition in Scandinavia by the American artist Leigh Ledare. The exhibition, entitled Leigh Ledare, et al., consists of photographs, texts, films and archival material and shows more than 100 works.
Ledare's photographs confront the viewer with disturbing depictions that provocatively explores our borders and raises questions about identity, desire and morality.
The exhibition presents a wide range of Ledare's works with special focus on the series Pretend You're Actually Alive (2000-2008) with the artist's aging mother - ex-ballerina and later lap dancer - as a model in a series of very explicit photographs, that establishes an ambiguous description of their relationship.
His latest work, An Invitation (2012), is presented in the exhibition. The work is based on a confidentiality agreement, Ledare has signed with a famous couple, who commissioned him to take a series of erotic photographs of the wife.
