A princess is born!

A proud father met the press on 24 January 2012. HRH Prince Joachim, the youngest son of HM Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and HRH Princess Marie have welcomed a little girl into the world.

According to tradition, the name will not be made public before the baptism, which will likely take place at the village church in Møgeltønder where the family resides.

The new princess is the eighth grandchild of Queen Margrethe II and a younger sister to Prince Henrik, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie’s oldest child. Prince Joachim also has two elder sons, Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix.

January 2012 was a month of great celebration for Denmark and the Danish royal family, as the country marked the 40th Jubilee of the Queen’s reign. Crowds flocked to the streets of Copenhagen to experience the regal festivities.

It was also the first birthday of the royal twins, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, children of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary. The twins have an older sister, Princess Isabella, and an older brother, Prince Christian, who is second in line to the Danish throne.
